Cancel the Invitation to Temptation

Sermon Notes

Every day, you get an invitation from two women: Harlot and Wisdom. You must respond to the invitations beforehand, and God can’t pick for you. You must pick one. Which will you choose?

Key Scriptures:

Proverbs 7:6-27; Proverbs 9:1-6

Key Points:

  1. The invitation from Harlot is all about sensual, carnal things. This invitation is to a party all about temptation, and you get it every day. If you take this wrong invitation, it will cost you.
  2. The invitation from Wisdom is all about spiritual things. This invitation is all about opportunities. You have an opportunity to do something eternal and leave a generational blessing to your children and grandchildren.
  3. Harlot’s preparation is all about your senses. Everything that harlotry prepares is temporary and superficial. Any time the devil gives you any pleasure, it's temporary, and then comes destruction. The devil has prepared a party to please you for a night; it's a one night stand plan that will destroy your life. Sin thrills then kills. It fascinates then assassinates.
  4. Wisdom’s preparation is all about things that last. Fools get into the one night stand plan but the wise build things that last. Wisdom takes planing and preparation seriously. Get your eyes off the cheap and temporary and onto things that last.
  5. Harlot’s invitation is to a private meeting. Beware of invitations, apps, messages, and pictures that are only between you and one other person. Beware of invitations that make you avoid good, godly people.
  6. Wisdom’s invitation is to a public meeting. There is wisdom in a multitude of counsel. If you think you’re more spiritual than your accountability, you’re deceived.
  7. Harlot’s meal is all leftovers. Sex without love and commitment is like eating food without swallowing or digesting; you get the flavor but then spit it out without ever being able to be satisfied from it.
  8. Wisdom’s meal is a feast of fine meats. Wisdom has prepared a meal that will satisfy you. The world can never give you the same satisfaction as Wisdom.

Final Thoughts:

You get an invitation from Wisdom and Harlot every day, and you must respond. Tear up the invitation from Harlot and choose Wisdom for your house; build something that lasts. If you’ve messed up, cry out to God, ask for forgiveness, and choose life.
