Act Like A Man: A Special Word To Fathers

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 gives powerful instructions to the men of God. It says, “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” In this confused and twisted generation, this is a message every man needs to hear.

What God needs now more than ever is for men to act like men.

There are many stereotypes about what being a man looks like. Yes, some men may be hunters or athletes, but others may be great chefs or caregivers. For example, one great hero in the Bible, Jacob, was the father of twelve sons. He was described as a godly man, yet he was not a hunter or outdoorsman like his brother. Jacob was a mama’s boy who stayed home to help cook and care for the household. Both of them were men God used in powerful ways. Not every man is athletic or into building things. God made you uniquely who you are.

We live in a time when politicians and large corporations are trying to erase the distinctions of gender altogether. Now, on US passports, you can select “neither” as your gender. Many children’s movies today are doing away with the titles of boys and girls. Our kindergarteners do not need to be taught that there are multiple genders. There is male and female. That is how God created people, and He said, “It is good!”

Acting like a man means not trying to be a woman. It means not trying to compete in women’s sports. It means not having sexual relations with men. It means not undergoing surgeries to alter your body to look like a woman. Romans 1:26-28 says, “Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts… Men committed shameful acts with other men and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.” The enemy wants you to adopt the world’s mindset, but God says, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world.”

The world will tell you, “You were born this way.” But we were all born sinners in need of a Savior. If we all followed our natural, fleshly desires, we could all become alcoholics, fornicators, or gluttons. You are born a sinner, so get born again. Receive the nature of Christ and become an overcomer! Homosexuality is a sin, like any other, and can be resisted. God can renew any mind and change any heart. Acting like a man starts with knowing who you are and whose you are. You belong to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, and nothing is too hard for Him.
