You Were Made to Soar

“…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31

In the book of Proverbs, Solomon encourages us to observe the natural world to gain wisdom, and one of the most powerful examples comes from the eagle. Pilots have reported seeing eagles soaring as high as 40,000 feet, gliding effortlessly among the clouds. When storms roll in, eagles do not seek shelter on the ground. Instead, they rise even higher. They fly into the storm, determined not to stop until they feel the sunlight warming their wings once again.

Eagles also teach us something beautiful about growth. When eaglets are young, their parents line the nest with fur, making it comfortable and safe. But as they grow, the parents remove the soft linings and bring less food. This gentle discomfort pushes the eaglets to attempt their first flights. They stumble, they fall, but they are never alone. The father eagle watches closely and swoops in to catch them before they hit the ground. He does this again and again until, one day, they learn to fly.

And here lies a profound truth for us: eaglets become what they were created to be when they learn that their father can fly faster than they can fall. You need to learn that lesson, too. God can fly faster than you can fall.

Even when life feels like it’s spiraling out of control, when the ground is rushing up to meet you, God already has His eye on you. He knew Adam would fall in the garden and had already prepared to send Jesus. He knew a famine was coming, so He placed Joseph over the storehouses of Egypt. God knew you would face the job loss, the bad diagnosis, the broken relationship, and the financial strain. And still, He has a plan.

Even if you feel like you are plummeting, remember that God can fly faster than you can fall.

You might be in a difficult season right now, but God’s Word gives us this promise: “Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” (Psalm 30:5) The hardship you face is not a sign that you’re alone or forgotten. It is evidence that God is doing something new. Change is often uncomfortable, but it’s necessary. Eagles were not created to sit in nests. They were designed to soar. So were you. You were not made to survive. You were made to overcome. You were made to soar.
