You Belong to the King

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9

Even King David, a man after God’s own heart, faced moments of deep despair. At one point, he found himself hiding in a cave—alone, hunted, stripped of dignity, and far from the throne he’d been promised. In that dark and uncertain place, God sent a reminder through a woman named Abigail. Her message to David, in essence, was this: “There is a king in you.” Though he was living like a fugitive, God had not forgotten David’s destiny. Abigail reminded him that his identity wasn’t defined by his current situation, but by the calling God had placed on his life.

There’s a true story about a man who stumbled upon an old, rusted Harley-Davidson motorcycle at a garage sale. Buried under a pile of junk and weeds, the bike looked worthless. Its wheels were barely hanging on and its body was eaten up by rust. Yet the man saw potential and paid $300 for it. While restoring it, he noticed a small serial number with the words “The King” inscribed above it. Curious, he called an expert to trace the bike’s history. Soon after, the expert called back, urgently offering $100,000. The man was stunned and asked why it was worth so much. The expert revealed that the motorcycle had once belonged to none other than Elvis Presley, “The King.”

Eventually, the man sold the bike to Jay Leno, the talk show host and avid collector, for a staggering $500,000. What changed? The bike’s value wasn’t in its condition. It was in who it belonged to. You belong to the King. It doesn’t matter how worn out you feel or how low your bank account is. Your worth isn’t determined by your circumstances, your past, or your pain.

You are a child of God and a member of a royal family. Scripture says in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9: “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.”

Maybe you’re in a tough season. Maybe your finances are dwindling, your marriage is struggling, or your health is fading. Perhaps you’re trying to recover from a moral failure or emotional exhaustion. Whatever it is, nothing is too big for your King. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills.

You are a child of God and a member of a royal family.

You may feel like that old motorcycle- rusty, forgotten, and left in the weeds. But you are not worthless. You are His. You belong to the King. And that makes you priceless.
