When the Waiting Comes

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

There are moments in your walk with God when you have done everything you know to do. You have obeyed. You have said no to what was not right. You have walked away from opportunities that looked good but were not God. You have prayed, sacrificed, and trusted. And then, instead of breakthrough, you find yourself waiting.

That is where Abraham found himself. He turned down the wealth of Sodom. He chose obedience over comfort. He chose God over gain. And after all of that, God spoke and said, “I am your shield and your exceeding great reward.” What a promise. Yet in the same breath, Abraham asked a real and honest question. “What about the promise?”

You know that place. There are days when your faith is strong and steady. You know God will do what He said. Then there are days when the opposite seems to be happening. You begin to wonder. You still believe, but you feel the tension. “Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.”

Then comes the waiting. Abraham prepared the sacrifice just as God instructed. Everything was in place. He sat down, expecting God to move. But instead of God showing up immediately, something else appeared. Buzzards. They circled what he had laid before God. They came to devour the sacrifice. They came to create an atmosphere of death where God had promised life. And Abraham had to make a decision. Would he sit back and let them take it, or would he fight?

He drove them away.

That is the word for you today. While you are waiting, you cannot let the buzzards settle. The buzzard of doubt will whisper that nothing is going to happen. The buzzard of fear will try to convince you it is too late. The buzzard of bad news will tell you to give up. The buzzard of disappointment will try to make you walk away from what God promised. But you have authority in this moment. You do not have to accept every thought, every report, or every fear that tries to land in your spirit. You can rise up and say, “Not here. Not on my promise. Not over my family.”

You drive them away with faith. You drive them away with the Word of God. You drive them away with worship and prayer. You remind yourself that God is not a man that He should lie. If He promised it, He will perform it. Your waiting is not wasted. Your prayers are not forgotten. Your sacrifice is not overlooked. God is still working, even when you cannot see it. So stay in the fight. Keep the buzzards away. Protect what God has spoken over your life. The breakthrough is closer than you think.

Prayer: Lord, help me to stand strong while I wait. Give me the strength to drive away every doubt and fear, and remind me that Your promises are still alive. Amen.
