When God Calls, He Knows What He’s Doing
“And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns.” Genesis 22:13 (ESV)
God’s ways often seem mysterious, and His timing can feel confusing. Think about Abraham, called to go to a mountain he’d never seen before. God simply said, “Go to the mountain that I will show you.” Abraham didn’t know the full story. He just obeyed. After a three-day journey, he was told to offer his long-awaited son, Isaac, as a sacrifice. Imagine the weight of that moment. Isaac was no longer a child but a strong young man who carried the wood up the mountain willingly. Neither Abraham nor Isaac understood the bigger picture. They didn’t know about Calvary or Jesus yet. But God did. God stopped Abraham just in time and provided a ram for sacrifice instead. God knew what He was doing all along, even when His children didn’t understand.
Fast forward hundreds of years to King David. In the middle of a national crisis, David was told to build an altar on a piece of land owned by a man named Ornan, on the very same mountain where Abraham had been tested. David insisted on paying for the land, refusing a gift, because he wanted to offer God a true sacrifice. When the altar was built and the sacrifice offered, God stopped the plague that had taken the lives of thousands. Centuries before the temple would be built there by Solomon, God was already orchestrating His plan on that very spot.
What’s the lesson for you? When God gives you instructions, even when you don’t understand where you’re going or why He’s asking you to do something, trust that He knows what He’s doing. The connections, the timing, and the full plan are often hidden from us, but they are all part of God’s perfect purpose.
You might be on a long, hard journey right now. You may not see how it all fits together yet. But God is faithful. He sees the whole story.
He knows the end from the beginning. When He calls you to something, step out in faith, knowing He already knows what He will do.
Prayer: Lord, help me to trust you when I don’t understand. Give me faith to obey even when the path is unclear. Thank you for knowing the end from the beginning and for guiding me every step of the way. I praise you for your perfect plan and timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
