When Everything is Against You, God is for You!
“And Jesus said unto them, ‘Go your way into the village over against you.’” Mark 11:2 (KJV)
Life has a way of sending us into places that feel completely against us. Maybe it’s a season of struggle, an impossible situation, or a storm that refuses to let up. In Mark 11:2, Jesus instructs His disciples to go into a village called “against.” At first glance, it’s a small, ordinary village. But the name tells us something powerful. It means opposed. It means resistance. It means a place where circumstances feel stacked against you.
God sometimes allows us to enter these “against” seasons on purpose. Not because He wants to harm us, but because He wants to prove Himself faithful. Daniel faced lions that were literally against him. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were thrown into a furnace heated seven times hotter, yet the fire did not consume them. In every case, God sent them into a situation that looked impossible—but He was with them the whole time.
Here’s the key truth: sometimes you are in a fiery furnace, and you don’t see Him. Sometimes you don’t feel Him. You don’t feel His hand. You don’t see the “fourth man” walking through the fire with you. But He is there. God’s presence is hidden, but He is working.
Three plus fire equals four. Everything in that trial that tries to destroy you will either be burned up or transformed—and you will walk out victorious.
The “place called against” is not meant to defeat you. It’s meant to strengthen your faith. It’s meant to stretch your obedience, deepen your trust, and reveal God’s power in your life. Your problems may feel like they are multiplying, the situation may seem unfair, and everything that used to work may not be working now, but just know that He is for you. Even when the odds are stacked, the God who controls the universe is walking with you, fighting for you, and preparing your victory.
Don’t shrink back. Don’t try to avoid the place called against. Step in with faith, knowing that God is already there, already working on your behalf. Your obedience in the “against” season will bring blessings, deliverance, and breakthroughs you can’t yet imagine.
Prayer: Lord, when I face seasons that feel against me, remind me that You are with me. Help me trust Your presence even when I cannot see it. Strengthen my faith, and let Your power be revealed in every trial. Turn every place of opposition into a place of blessing and victory. Amen.
