When Everything Is Against You

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28 NIV)

There are seasons in life when it feels like the whole world is working against you. You’re following God’s leading, but opposition, storms, and setbacks surround you. Jesus sent His disciples into the Sea of Galilee, knowing they would face a storm. He allowed them to encounter opposition, not to abandon them, but to teach them a profound lesson: when everything is against you, God is for you.

Sometimes, God sends us into places we would never choose—places that feel “against.” Opposition can look like financial struggles, a relationship in crisis, a health challenge, or even the loss of a loved one. Yet, God’s purpose in these “against” moments is not to harm us, but to lead us to hidden treasures of blessing that can only be discovered in the fire of trial.

Consider Jacob. At one point in his life, he felt completely surrounded by opposition. He had lost his two sons, thought he would never see them again, and was weighed down by grief and fear. He declared, “Everything is against me.” But God was still working. In the midst of what seemed like hopeless loss, Jacob’s story didn’t end in despair. God had a plan unfolding that Jacob could not yet see.

David, too, faced seasons where it seemed like enemies were all around him, yet he boldly declared, “But God is for me.” He understood that no matter how dark the night or how fierce the opposition, God was orchestrating every detail. Every tear was recorded in His book, every hardship was under His control, and every seemingly impossible situation contained a divine purpose.

Even when life feels impossible, God is setting up blessings that cannot be accessed any other way.

Opposition can become the pathway to breakthroughs, revelation, and unshakeable faith.

Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things—including storms, losses, and trials—work together for our good when we love God and trust His purpose.

So when you are in a place of “against,” don’t panic. Step in with faith. Keep your eyes on Jesus, knowing He has hidden treasures for you in the midst of opposition. Lift your voice in praise, trust His plan, and walk forward with confidence. God is for you—and nothing, no matter how overwhelming, can stop His purpose or His blessings in your life.

Prayer: Lord, when life feels against me, remind me that You are for me. Help me trust Your plan, even in loss and hardship. Reveal the hidden blessings in the storms, restore what has been lost, and strengthen my faith to stand firm in every trial. Amen.
