What To Do In The Time Of Famine (Part 2)
“Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.” Proverbs 17:24
Some of the most powerful things you will witness God do in your life will not happen during times of ease or celebration. They will happen in the middle of a famine, when circumstances are dry, difficult, and uncertain. It is in those seasons, when you choose to stay where God has placed you that you will see His hand move in miraculous ways.
Proverbs 17:24 tells us, “Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.” This verse reveals a profound truth: a wise person recognizes and values the people and blessings already present in their life, while a fool is constantly fixated on what is missing.
A foolish person is always thinking, “If only...” “If only I could live in California.” “If only I could have that woman instead of the one I have.” “If only I could get that promotion.”
True contentment cannot exist where gratitude is absent.
Until you learn to appreciate what is right in front of you, satisfaction will always feel out of reach. Value what you have. Cherish what has been entrusted to you. The eyes of a fool are forever scanning the horizon, believing happiness lies elsewhere.
It is interesting how people who live in the countryside dream of moving to the city. They grow weary of mowing lawns, repairing fences, and driving long distances to reach a store. Meanwhile, those in the city yearn for the peace of rural life. They are exhausted by the traffic, overwhelmed by the noise, and disheartened by the constant rush. Each group thinks, “If I could just trade places with them, then I would be happy.”
God shows Himself most clearly in imperfect places. He met Moses while he was hiding in the wilderness. He encountered Job in the depths of suffering. He stood with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the blazing furnace. He protected Daniel in the lion’s den. He came to a discouraged Elijah under a juniper tree. He found Jeremiah in a pit, Peter in a prison, and Paul in the heart of a storm. Over and over, God reveals His glory in the most challenging places. So if you find yourself in a hard and lonely season, do not pack your bags and quit. Victory is coming right around the corner.
