Victory Over Giants
“Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” Psalms 55:22
In 2 Samuel 5, there is a place called the Valley of Rephaim. The Hebrew translation of Rephaim means “giants.” The Bible says, “It was there that the sons of Anak deployed themselves against David.” He was not facing just one giant but an army of giants. Have you ever been in the Valley of Giants? Where you weren’t just facing one big problem, but you had multiple giants to face at once? Sometimes, our gigantic problems seem so big, and we seem so small.
It’s interesting that the reason these giants attacked David was simply because he was anointed. The enemy does not fight you over your present condition. He fights you over the prophecy and destiny that God has set before you. When God gives you a vision, He does not show you where you are. He shows you a picture of where He’s taking you. And with any vision from God, there are always obstacles to overcome.
One of these obstacles is your present condition. When God shows you a vision, it will always be counteracted by your present conditions. That’s why He said in Habakkuk, “Write it down.” Sometimes, God will show you a vision of victory for your life, and you have to remember it when times get tough.
The enemy showed up simply because David was anointed. When David found himself in the Valley of Rephaim, the first thing he did was rename the valley. He said, “I don’t care how big the giants are, I’m going to call this valley the ‘Valley of Baal Perazim.’” In Hebrew, this means, “God has mastered my breakthrough.” When you get in the valley of gigantic problems, the first thing you need to do is rename that valley and say, “I know the giants seem big, but I’m not going to be conquered. This is where God’s going to master my breakthrough. I don’t know how He’s going to do it. I can’t see how He’s going to do it. But I know God is faithful, and the Bible says, ‘He is Lord of the Valley of Giants.’”
You may be in “the Valley of Giants,” facing gigantic health problems, gigantic money problems, gigantic marital problems, and the enemy’s told you that God isn’t with you anymore. Don’t let your present conditions get you down because your breakthrough is coming!
