Trusting God When You Don’t See A Way

“But He said this to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.” John 6:6 (NKJV)

You’ve been there, staring at a problem so big, so overwhelming, you don’t know where to start. Maybe it’s a financial struggle, a health scare, or worry about your family. Like the disciples, all you see is the impossible. In John 6, Jesus faces a crowd of thousands of people who are hungry and in need of food. He asks Phillip, “Where shall we buy bread?” But here’s the twist: Jesus already knows the answer. He’s testing Philip to see if he really trusts Him, even when the situation looks hopeless.

Think about that for a minute. Jesus didn’t ask because He was confused or desperate. He asked because He wanted His followers to step into faith. He wanted to see if they’d trust Him without having all the answers or the resources. Philip said, “Even 200 days’ wages won’t be enough to feed them all.” That’s like you looking at your situation and saying, “There’s no way this can work.” But Jesus already knew what He was going to do.

This is such a comfort because it reminds you that God is never caught off guard. Before the problem even started, He knew exactly how He would handle it. He’s in control of everything, the mountains, the stars, even every area of your life. He is eternal, unchanging, and powerful beyond measure. Yet, this God who created everything also became flesh. Jesus walked the earth, lived like you and me, felt hunger, joy, and pain. Still, He knew what He would do.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure, don’t give up. God’s plan hasn’t failed.

He’s not scrambling to find a solution. He’s simply waiting for you to trust Him. When you don’t know what to do, remember Jesus’ question to Philip. It’s a call to have faith. He is able to multiply your resources, your hope, and your strength.

Prayer: Lord, I admit sometimes I feel overwhelmed and unsure. Help me trust you when I don’t see a way forward. Thank you that you already know what you will do in my situation. Increase my faith and remind me that you are in control. I believe you will provide and lead me through. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
