The Way Of The Eagle

“But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you…” Job 12:7

Solomon was known as one of the wisest kings in history. In one passage, he said, (paraphrased), “It blows my mind when I begin to study the eagle.” (Proverbs 30:18-19) God truly made eagles magnificent creatures, and there is so much we can learn from them.

The eagle lives its life on a higher level than most animals. It has incredible vision and can spot its prey from a height of two miles. Unlike most birds, the eagle can soar to greater heights because it has a unique ability- it can gaze directly into the sun. This is possible because eagles have two sets of eyelids, which protect their eyes. This remarkable trait keeps the eagle safe from its one enemy, the condor. When threatened, the eagle flies straight toward the sun, knowing the condor cannot follow.

Psalm 84:11 says, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield.” Just like the eagle, we must learn to rise above our problems by flying into the presence of God. He is our strength and our protector. When life gets hard, we must lift our eyes and focus on the things above. Colossians 3:2 in The Message Bible reminds us, “Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ- that's where the action is. See things from His perspective.” When trouble comes, you have to look up.

Proverbs 24:16 tells us, “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.”

You were created to rise. You were made to live like the eagle. God designed you to lift your eyes and soar. The Latin word for man, “enthros,” means “one whose eyes look upward.” You were never meant to live downcast, defeated, or discouraged. You were created to rise above. You were made to soar.
