The Path To Greatness

“For who hath despised the day of small things? For they shall rejoice…” Zechariah 4:10

Elisha had not always been a prophet. There was a time when he was farming in the fields when he could have been performing miracles. But it doesn’t matter where you are now; God knows how to get you where He wants you to be.

And as Elisha was out in the field plowing one day, the prophet Elijah placed his cloak on him and said, “If you follow me and if you’re with me when I’m taken up, a double portion of my spirit will come on you.” The old prophet, at that moment, gave him a challenge. And the Bible says that Elisha accepted the call and broke the plow. Now that’s a powerful thing! It’s a key to a double portion of God’s anointing.

The plow represented Elisha’s income and security. It represented how his family, from generation to generation, had made their living and put food on the table. The plow was his everything, and yet he was willing to walk away from it all to serve God. Elisha didn’t store the plow in the barn just in case things didn’t work out, he broke the plow. And the moment he broke the plow, something broke loose in his life. Before you ever see Him do anything, there’s something powerful about believing God.

Elisha began to follow and serve the prophet Elijah. He didn’t know it then, but he would enter a higher realm of anointing than his predecessor through faithfulness. Through faithfulness in small, insignificant things, he received a double portion anointing. Before you have great days, you’ll have to be faithful in the small days. Through faithfulness, Elisha entered into a mighty world-shaking ministry.
