The Man Who Kept Showing Up

"Now a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg." Acts 3:2

He didn't get to choose his circumstances. He was lame from birth, which meant he had never walked a single step on his own. Every morning, someone had to carry him. Every day, he was placed at the same gate and left to ask for whatever strangers were willing to give.

The same gate. Every day. For years.

Here's the detail that changes this story: that gate, the Beautiful Gate, was one of the main entrances to the temple. And Jesus had taught in the temple. Regularly. Which means Jesus had almost certainly walked through or past that gate more than once during His ministry.

The lame man had been placed there daily. Jesus had passed through. And nothing had happened.

We don't know what the man felt about that. The Bible doesn't give us his inner monologue. But we know what he did: he kept showing up. Every morning, back at the same gate. Not because he had a guarantee. Not because something had happened the day before to give him hope. Because it was the only gate he knew, and he wasn't done yet.

And then one afternoon, Peter and John walk up. And the man does what he always does — he asks for money. And Peter says: silver and gold I don't have. But what I do have, I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.

And he does.

One day changed everything that every previous day had been unable to change.

This is one of the most important patterns in Scripture: the tipping point is always just a day away. Jacob wrestled with God all night and would not let go, and by morning, his name had changed. The disciples prayed in the upper room for days, and then the Holy Spirit fell. The Israelites marched around Jericho for six days in silence, and on the seventh, the walls came down.

You never know which day is the tipping point. You only know it requires you to keep showing up until it arrives.

This matters enormously for whatever you have been praying about, believing for, or showing up to without visible result. The fact that yesterday wasn't the day does not mean today won't be. The fact that nothing happened at the gate last Tuesday doesn't mean Peter and John won't walk up today.

Psalm 68:19 says God daily loads us with benefits. Daily. Which means every single day carries the potential for something new. Every day you show up is a day God can move.

Don't let the accumulation of ordinary days talk you out of showing up for this one. You may be one day away from the moment that redefines everything that came before it.

Keep going to the gate.

Reflection:

What have you been showing up for consistently without visible result? Write it down and remind yourself: the tipping point is always one day away. Choose to show up one more time today.

Today's Prayer:

Lord, I'll be honest, I'm tired of showing up to the same gate. I have been faithful, and I haven't seen the breakthrough yet. Give me the faith of the man who kept coming back. Help me to trust that You know which day is the tipping point. I don't want to quit one day before the miracle. Amen.
