Resurrection Power
“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” John 11:25 (NKJV)
Jesus interrupted funerals. The widow’s son at Nain was on his way to be buried when Jesus touched his coffin. The Bible says the boy sat up and began to speak. Imagine the astonishment of that crowd. A dead boy alive again with just a touch from the Savior. In the Old Testament, Elijah raised a widow’s son by stretching himself over the boy until life returned. The boy sneezed seven times and came back to life. Later, Elisha, carrying a double portion of God’s promise, even brought a dead soldier back to life simply by the body touching his bones. These resurrections remind us that God’s power never fades. His promises cannot be buried, no matter how impossible the circumstances may seem.
Even when life stinks, when your marriage is strained, your finances feel hopeless, or your health is failing, Jesus says, “Believe, I am able. I am the Resurrection. I am the Life.” Just as Lazarus rose on the fourth day, long dead and beginning to decay, God’s power can restore what seems lost. The ordinary circumstances of life cannot contain the extraordinary power of God.
Look at the people in these stories. Widows, young boys, and soldiers were ordinary. They had no special power, no grand pedigree, and nothing to commend themselves except that they were in the path of God’s hand. The same is true for you. God uses ordinary lives to display extraordinary miracles. He chooses everyday people to show His glory to the world.
And then there is Jesus. His resurrection is unlike any other. Unlike the others, He went into death by choice and returned by His own power. He knew the time, the place, and the circumstance of His death. He made an appointment beyond the grave. “After I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.” And He kept that promise. The disciples met Him exactly where and when He said they would.
Jesus’ resurrection is the ultimate proof that death is not the end. While human escape artists could amaze the world, Jesus actually conquered death and gave us life that is eternal. For forty days, He presented evidence that could not be disputed. He showed us that life, even beyond the grave, is under His power. Because He went beyond and back, we can face death and life’s impossible moments with faith, hope, and confidence.
This is the resurrection power that changes ordinary people into witnesses of God’s glory. Today, you may feel ordinary. You may feel powerless. But just being in the path of God is enough. The God who brought the dead back to life can take your ordinary circumstances and bring extraordinary victory. He can restore what is lost. He can breathe life into what seems dead.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for showing Your power over death and for keeping Your promises. Help me to trust You in the impossible. Teach me to believe even when life stinks, and to walk in the resurrection power that only You provide. Amen.
