Quiet! Victory In Progress! (Part 2)
“But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, ‘Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.’” Mark 5:36
In 2 Kings 6, the famine was so severe, the recession was so bad, and the stock market had dropped so low in the City of Samaria that they were eating donkey’s heads and dove’s dung. They were boiling their own children and eating them. But then the people were given a word of hope, “Hear the word of the Lord; here comes the prophet. By tomorrow's time, there will be so much bread in this city that you can buy a loaf of bread for a penny.” One of the men stood up and mockingly said, "If God Himself were to open a window of heaven over this city, that still would not be possible.”
The man was speaking words of defeat. But while he was standing there saying, ‘It’s not possible,’ what he didn’t know was that God was already unfolding the victory because four lepers turned to each other outside the city and decided to do something radical. They said, “Why sit we here until we die? Let’s go attack the enemy!”
The four lepers started walking toward the enemy’s camp and realized that the enemy had all run away. So the four lepers had a feast, and then they said, “Let’s go tell the others. We have enough bread to spare.” So they told the starving people the news that they had found food, and the people ran to the campground.
Ironically, the guy that was standing there saying, “It’s not going to happen; it’s going to get worse,” was trampled and killed! Your words matter! The lepers dared to believe and spoke words of faith, and God worked a miracle of provision for them. The other man chose to speak words of fear, and his fears became a reality. Watch what you say.
In Mark 5, Jarius had a daughter who was sick. When he reached Jesus to ask for prayer, someone said, “It’s too late; she’s already dead.” And Jesus replied, “Quiet.” When he arrived, the people in the room with the dead child were weeping, crying, and mourning. Do you know what Jesus did? He said, “Quiet, get out.” He put them all out of the room. He said (paraphrased), “Quiet, please, there’s a victory in progress.” He put the bad news out, got the good news in, and said, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” And she woke up from the dead and rose again.
In Matthew, chapter 16, the Bible says that Jesus was headed to the cross and said, “I must suffer and go to Jerusalem, die, and on the third day I’ll be raised.” And Peter interrupted Him with a rebuke. Can you imagine that? Saying, “No, Jesus, you’re not going to die on that cross.” Jesus said, “Get behind Me, Satan, for you are an offense unto Me. You speak not the things of God, but those that are of men.” Jesus was saying, “You don’t understand. The whole world is about to be redeemed, and it’s going to happen because I’m going to die and rise again. And you are speaking negative words that Satan wants you to speak. You’re not speaking the things of God about this situation; you’re speaking like a carnal man.
There’s a victory in progress. God’s already working on your lost loved one. He is already working on your personal economic situation. He’s already healing your body. He’s already planning everything out for your life, so don’t sabotage it with your words! Victory is in progress.
