Propped On Your Leaning Side (Part 2)

“David said to Abigail, ‘Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, who has sent you today to meet me. May you be blessed for your good judgment and for keeping me from bloodshed this day and from avenging myself with my own hands.’” 1 Samuel 25:32-33

Yesterday you read the story about the farmer who had a barn that was propped up on its leaning side. The strong pine beams held it up and kept it from collapsing. God provides “beams” to hold us up in this life. You probably have a friend who comes to mind who fits that description. In the Bible, David had Jonathan. David had grown in popularity after he killed the giant and the people loved him. King Saul became jealous of him and wanted to kill him but his sweet son had a friendship with David and he was a pillar for David in those hard times. David was probably doubting in that season if he should be there or if he should even want to be king. The prophet had anointed him but it was turning into a big mess. But God sent Jonathan to prop him up on his leaning side. Jonathan believed in David and helped him in every way he could. He would not let David fall.

Then later on in another phase of his life, David was tempted to kill a man named Nabal. The man had angered him but murdering someone out of anger was not God’s will for David and God sent someone to “prop him up on his leaning side” just in the nick of time. He was leaning in the wrong direction. He was leaning towards anger and violence but Abigail talked him out of it. She tells him (paraphrased), “Nabal is a fool and you are a king and you don’t need to tarnish your reputation or offend God by committing this act. God will fight your battles.”

You may be dealing with a bad relationship or a hard season in your life right now but God will send the right people at the right times to prop you up if you will be open to it.

He will send sweet friends or wise advisors to steer you into the right mindset and keep you from sin. Don’t turn to quick fixes because God knows what you need more than you even do. He is always working behind the scenes to send you help when you are weak.
