Pick Up the Jawbone Again
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” John 7:38 (NIV)
There comes a time in your walk with God when you realize that comfort can make you dry. You have everything you once prayed for, yet your soul feels parched. It is not sin that weakens you, it is thirst. The very thing that once made you passionate for God has quietly slipped out of your hands. You remember when His presence used to sweep over you in ways you could not explain, and tears would fall before you even understood why. Those were the moments when His Spirit felt alive in you, but somewhere along the way, success replaced surrender, and the fire that used to burn so bright began to fade.
God is calling you to pick up the jawbone again. Samson laid it down after his victory, but when he grew faint with thirst, he reached for the same weapon, and water poured from it. That old, simple thing God once used to bring victory became the very thing that revived him. The same is true for you. Go back to the things that sustained your spirit before—prayer, fasting, worship, time in His Word. It may not look polished or modern, but it still works.
God breathes life into old altars when hearts bow before Him again.
You can be surrounded by blessings and still be spiritually dehydrated. You can have full hands but an empty heart. What revives you is not more achievement but returning to the presence of God that once filled your life with purpose. The Lord is saying to you, “Pick it up again. Praise Me again. Pray again. Worship again.” He wants to send fresh water into dry places.
The world may not understand this kind of thirst, but God does. He is waiting for you to lift your hands and admit, “Lord, I need You again.” He will not leave you dry. The same Spirit that once moved in power is still ready to flow through you. You only need to reach for Him.
Prayer: Lord, I am thirsty for You. I do not want to live on yesterday’s blessings. Stir in me a hunger for Your presence. Remind me of the places where You once met me, and give me courage to return to them. Send Your living water to revive my heart and let Your Spirit flow through me again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
