Love What God Loves, Hate What He Hates

“Let those who love the Lord hate evil…” Psalms 97:10

Ecclesiastes 3:8 tells us that there is a time to love and a time to hate. As Christians, we are called to love what God loves and hate what God hates. We are very good, in the body of Christ, of loving what God loves, but we have a weakness when it comes to hating what He hates. General Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, said this before he died: “I fear the day when we will have salvation without regeneration, faith without repentance, heaven without hell, and love for God without hate for evil.”

You can’t love flowers without hating weeds because the weeds will destroy the flowers. In the same way, you cannot love God without hating sin. You cannot love God without hating what Satan does to people’s lives. The more a mother loves a child, the more she would hate a disease that is trying to take the child’s life.

Just to be clear, we are never given a license to hate any person. We should never slander, say hateful things, or humiliate people. We are called to love others. Even Jesus, knowing what Judas was about to do, called him “friend.” We are to love sinners, but we are to hate sin. In the Bible, God says, “Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil; that put darkness for light.” (Isaiah 5:20). We are not supposed to just go along with evil and allow it to become acceptable in our nation.

God says, “I hate hands that shed innocent blood.” (Proverbs 6:17). In America today, we are seeing over 1 million abortions a year. This is not a Democrat or a Republican issue. This is a moral issue. We need to stand up and begin to tell the people of this nation to choose life. Murdering innocent babies is wrong and angers God. Stories have come out where new abortion nurses run out crying after seeing a baby removed from its mother’s body while its heart is still beating. Oftentimes, organs from the baby are harvested for money, and then the baby is thrown into a trash can. We cannot accept this. We need to stand up for life. We need to pray and fast. We need to vote out politicians who stand for these evil practices and put in leaders who will defend the defenseless. It’s time to stand up.
