Living To Be Spent (Part Two)
"Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
Sometimes people will tell you that you are too young to dream big, too inexperienced to make a difference, or too ordinary for God to use. But history proves otherwise. Charlie Kirk was only eighteen when he began Turning Point USA. By thirty-one, his influence had reached millions across the nation. He didn’t have a college degree or all the advantages others had, but he gave what he did have—a sharp mind, a gift of communication, and a courageous spirit—and God used it to impact the world.
This is what happens when God “spends” a life. The Bible shows us this pattern in Acts 6 and 7 with Stephen, the first Christian martyr. Stephen wasn’t an apostle or a famous preacher. He was an ordinary believer full of faith and the Holy Spirit. When he spoke, the Bible says his opponents “could not resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke” (Acts 6:10). That’s why the enemy targeted him. And when Stephen was stoned to death, it seemed like a tragic loss. But God was doing something bigger.
As Stephen’s life was being “spent,” a young man named Saul of Tarsus stood watching. That same Saul would later encounter Jesus, be transformed, and become the Apostle Paul, writing much of the New Testament. Through Paul, entire generations were given the gospel of Jesus. That is what it means when God spends a life. He does it to purchase something eternal, something bigger than we can see in the moment.
You are not too young or too ordinary to be part of this story. God is still buying a generation—your generation.
God is looking for young men and women who will live boldly, stand courageously, and be willing to spend themselves for Christ.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that my life has purpose. Use me in my generation to stand for truth, to speak with wisdom, and to live in faith. Help me not to waste my days but to gladly be spent for You, knowing You can use my life to reach others I may never meet. Amen.
