Know Where You Came From and Where You’re Going
“I am the good shepherd, and I know my sheep, and am known of mine.” John 10:14 (KJV)
Here’s something you’ve got to lock down deep in your heart: You must never forget where you came from and where you’re going. Jesus said in John 8:14, “My reward is true, for I know where I came from and where I go.” That’s the foundation of everything. Don’t ever forget the pit God pulled you out of. Don’t let yourself start believing you deserve every blessing that comes your way. The only reason you deserve anything is because of the blood of Jesus.
When you remember your past, you stay humble. When you know your future, you stay hopeful. Even in the middle of the hardest trials, you can rest in the promise that you’re going through something now, but you’re going to the other side. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, knows you intimately. He knows where you are, and He knows exactly where you are headed.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them” (John 10:27). He’s not just calling out to the crowd; He knows you personally. He knows who He has chosen and called. That means you matter to Him - deeply and forever. When you’ve seen Jesus, you’ve seen the Father. Heaven and earth will pass away, but His word won’t. Jesus isn’t worried about the chaos around us. He doesn’t have anxiety about the future. He’s in control.
This should bring you peace. God knows what He’s going to do. He’s always known. Nothing can stop His plan, not even the world’s greatest challenges. So when you feel uncertain or overwhelmed, remember: Jesus is your Shepherd.
He knows your past, He guides your present, and He’s prepared your future.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for knowing me so completely. You know where I’ve been and where I’m going. Help me to never forget your mercy in my past and your promises for my future. Give me peace in the present, knowing you are in control and that your plan for my life cannot be stopped. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
