It’s Time For A Comeback (Part 2)

“And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.” Luke 15:20

The prodigal son made a comeback. He jumped the fence of the hog pen and started back to his father’s house. While he was a great way off, when the old gray-headed father saw him from a distance, he took off running towards him. Then the dad fell on him and kissed him.

Some of you are struggling to come back on your own. You may be thinking that if you could just kick those bad habits and get yourself together, then you could come back to God. You may be striving to fix your life on your own, but you just need to turn to the Father and let His love fall on you.

In the story of the prodigal son, the father goes running to him because the boy can’t come back on his own. But the son couldn’t cover his shame and the stench of the pig pen. He couldn’t quit his habits. He couldn’t cover up where he had been and what he had done. But here comes the father. He places a robe of righteousness on him and puts shoes on his feet. Slaves in the Bible were not allowed to wear shoes because then they could run away. But here comes the father, before his son ever gets home, orchestrating a means of his comeback. He covered all of his dirtiness, put shoes on his feet, and then placed a ring on his finger, meaning, “You’re now back in the family.”

You may have messed up badly. But if you just move towards God, something will fall on you. Grace and favor are going to kiss you. His love and forgiveness are going to kiss you. God’s not mad at you. He’s just waiting for you to come out of the pig pen and start walking towards Him the best you can. Don’t worry about your addiction. Don’t worry about your mess-ups. Just start moving, and the Father will come running and meet you where you are. He loves you, and He’s waiting for you right now to go back home.
