Glory to God in the Highest

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” Luke 2:14

This Christmas, it is time to hit the pause button. Not on joy, not on celebration, but on all the noise that tries to replace the reason we are celebrating in the first place. Christmas is not about the jokes, the gifts, the shopping lists, or whether everything turned out the way you hoped. It is about Jesus. It is His birthday. And the response of heaven was clear and unmistakable: Glory to God in the highest.

The shepherds did not argue about it. They did not analyze it. They lifted their hands and joined the chorus of heaven. Their response was undistracted and focused worship to the Savior of the world. You are invited to do the same. When everything around you tries to pull your attention in a hundred directions, lift your eyes higher and proclaim glory to God in the highest.

Many people celebrate Christmas without ever inviting Jesus into the room. They gather around tables of food and trees full of gifts, yet miss the presence of the one the celebration is for. A party without His presence is empty, no matter how beautiful it looks. But when you know Him, when you truly know Him, everything changes. When you know Him as Wonderful, Counselor, and the Son of the living God, He will be the focus of the season.

Christmas is also a season of signs. The angel said the birth of Jesus would be a sign, and God still gives direction in this season. You can ask Him to show you how to handle the tension in your family, the weight in your heart, or the uncertainty ahead of you. Even in grief, even with empty chairs at the table, there is still an occupied throne. When loss comes, lift your eyes and see the Lord high and lifted up.

Jesus did not stay distant from your pain. He stepped into it. He identified with your weakness so He could minister healing and hope back to you.

The miracle of Christmas is not just that Christ came into the world. It is that Christ is being formed in you. When He lives inside you, your appetites change. Your desires shift. Your life begins to look different.

This Christmas, let it be simple. Let it be clear. Lift your voice with heaven and declare it again and again: Glory to God in the highest.

Prayer: Jesus, I choose to center my heart on You this Christmas. Strip away every distraction and form Yourself in me. Let my life bring glory to God in the highest. Fill me with Your peace and Your joy. Amen.
