Faith in the Middle

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me.”  Psalm 23:4 (NKJV)

Fear doesn’t always mean you're doing something wrong. In fact, it often shows up when you’re doing something bold. It can come when you step into something new, uncertain, or uncomfortable. Scripture never promises you’ll never feel fear. What it teaches is how to walk through it with faith.

David didn’t say, “I don’t walk through valleys,” or even, “I don’t feel afraid.” He said, “I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” There’s the difference. Fear may come, but it doesn’t have to control you. Not when you know God is walking right there with you.

The greatest opportunities often come dressed as your greatest challenges.

That is not by accident. It is divine strategy. God uses those moments to take you from faith to faith and from glory to glory. What looks like pressure is actually preparation. What looks like the enemy trying to sink you is often God calling you to walk on deeper waters. But fear wants to make you stop short. Fear says it is safer to stay where you are. Fear says, “What if it does not work?” But God says, “Do not be afraid, I am with you.” He says, “Be of good cheer. It is I.” You are not walking through this season alone. Even when it feels like the middle, too far from where you were and not yet where you are going, God is still there.

Maybe you're standing at the edge of change, facing a new season, a relationship decision, a career step, or a move that feels risky. You might be in the “middle” right now, too far from where you started to feel secure, but not yet on the other side. That’s when fear often screams the loudest. You’ve left the shore, the boat’s rocking, and you're wondering if you’ll make it.

But that’s also when Jesus shows up. In the Gospels, the disciples were in the middle of a storm, losing stability and security, when Jesus came walking on the water. He didn’t just say “Don’t be afraid.” He said, “Be of good cheer.” Why? Because His presence changes everything. His voice calms the wind. His command lifts you above the waves.

You don’t have to be a superhero type of person to walk in faith. You just have to remember who’s with you. Ask the Lord, “Is this you leading me?” And if it is, even if the next step feels risky, you can move forward with courage. You might feel afraid. But like David, you can choose to say, “I will fear no evil, for You are with me.”

Prayer: Lord, even when I’m afraid, I will trust You. Thank you for walking with me through uncertainty and change. Give me courage to step forward and faith to believe that you’re leading me into incredible things. Amen.”
