Consecration Still Fits
"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light" -1 Peter 2:9.
A young woman stood in front of a full-length mirror, staring at a vintage heirloom dress that had hung safely in her family attic for decades. The fabric was heavy, modest, and undeniably out of step with the ultra-modern styles filling the downtown shop windows. Friends had gently warned her that the old garment looked starchy and entirely unsuited for the modern world. Yet, the moment she zipped it up, it fit with breathtaking perfection. It did not restrict her movement. Instead, it protected her from the bitter wind outside and carried an elegance that no fast fashion could ever duplicate.
We often look at the biblical call to holiness the exact same way. Culture tells us that purity, traditional consecration, and being set apart are outdated concepts. We are led to believe that the timeless spiritual garments designed by God are too restrictive for everyday life, feeling a bit starchy or overly formal for a modern era.
Sanctification simply means to be set apart, and it is a breathtaking invitation rather than a burdensome rulebook. When we read the ten commandments, we often view them as a strict list of do-nots, imagining a cage designed to keep us from having fun. In reality, God gave us those boundaries as an outline for the freest life possible. Want to experience the greatest adventure that life has to offer? It is a walk through a sanctified life. Want to experience the truest and deepest love? It is a walk through a sanctified life.
Holiness is never about a destination where we finally arrive and check a box. It is an ever evolving process that we continue to grow into day by day.
We tend to think that true freedom comes from living however we want, and for a season, that independence can taste sweet and feel exhilarating. But sin always takes us further than we want to go, and it always repays with sorrow. It is a lousy guide for our lives. When you walk His way, you start to fall in love with being set apart because you realize that His story is always the greatest one.
Practical Application
You do not have to white-knuckle your way through temptation or strive to earn your worth through sheer human effort.
Take one simple, intentional step today. Pick one area where you have been trying to blend in with a noisy culture, and invite the Holy Spirit to gently reset your compass. You can pause during your commute or while sitting at your desk to quietly tell God that you prefer His design over the world's passing trends. His grace meets you right in the middle of your kitchen or your office, offering a renewed strength that never goes out of style.

Lord, we thank You for designing a life of freedom, purpose, and holiness that actually works for us today. Forgive us for the times we have traded Your timeless grace for the temporary thrills of this world. Give us the courage to embrace the set-apart life, knowing that Your boundaries are wrapped in fierce love. Help us to walk boldly in the identity You have given us as a royal priesthood.
