Cancel the Invitation to Temptation

“Forsake foolishness and live, and go in the way of understanding.” Proverbs 9:6 NKJV

Every single day, you receive two invitations. One comes from Lady Folly, dressed up to look fun, exciting, and full of pleasure. The other comes from Lady Wisdom, quiet but steady, offering life, strength, and blessing. Both invitations look attractive, but only one leads to peace with God.

Proverbs 7 describes the first invitation. You see a young man with no understanding walking down the wrong street at the wrong time. He meets a woman who looks religious on the outside, but her heart is full of deception. She promises fun, love, and secrecy, but the Bible says her house leads to death. That is the spirit of temptation. It will always try to dress itself in beauty, but its end is destruction.

Then in Proverbs 9, you see a different kind of woman. Lady Wisdom has built her house, prepared her table, and sent out her messengers. She invites you to come, eat, and drink, to live and walk in understanding. Her invitation leads to life. She is not loud or flashy, but she is faithful. She will not ruin your future. She will secure it.

The truth is, you cannot accept both invitations. They are held at the same time. You must RSVP to one, and by doing so, you reject the other. You cannot go back and forth. If you choose temptation, you give up wisdom. If you choose wisdom, you walk away from temptation. God does not make the choice for you. He places the invitations in front of you and says, “Which party will you attend?” That decision is yours. One path leads to brokenness. The other leads to opportunity, joy, and favor.

Today, cancel the invitation to temptation.

Say no to what your flesh wants in the moment, and say yes to what your spirit longs for in eternity. The house of wisdom is open, and the table is set. Choose life.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me a clear choice between the path of temptation and the path of wisdom. Give me eyes to see beyond what looks good on the surface and a heart that longs for what is eternal. Strengthen me to say no to sin and yes to You. I choose wisdom. I choose life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
