Be Great Before It’s Too Late (Part 3)
“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. And He said: ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.’” Matthew 18:1-4
If you really want to be great, you have to be teachable. Proverbs 1:7 says, “...fools despise wisdom and instruction.” If you’re the kind of person who always has to be right, who can’t handle feedback, and who argues every time someone gives you wisdom, you’re blocking your own growth. Great people don’t think they know it all. They’re always asking, “How can I get better?” They lean in when someone corrects them. They actually want feedback because they’re hungry to grow and level up.
How you respond to correction says a lot about where you're headed. If you can take correction with a good attitude, you’re already on the road to greatness. God cares more about your character than your reputation. So, if pride is creeping in or you catch yourself doing things just to be seen or praised, it might be time to check your motives. Because God’s motive is always to serve. Think about Jesus.
On His last day on earth, He got down on His knees and washed His disciples’ feet.
That’s the heart of true greatness.
God wants to know, “Can I trust you with more?” A lot of people are out here hustling to get married but not preparing to be a good spouse. They’re chasing money but not learning how to manage it when it shows up.
Greatness isn’t about the title. It’s not about the money or the platform. It’s about how you treat people—even the ones who can’t do anything for you. It’s about staying kind when you’re in charge and staying grounded in God when life’s going your way. It’s still reading your Bible, still praying, still keeping God first when everything’s going right. Because real greatness is not just what you do. It’s who you are. Ask yourself today, “Can God trust me with greatness?” He is looking for men and women who will set themselves aside and say, “God, I want to see greatness break out in my life for the glory of my King.”
