As For Me And My House
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
Joshua 24:15 says, “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served which were on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” God was saying in this verse that you’ve got to make wise choices in life if you’re going to have the best that God has for you. Much of our present life has been settled by our past choices. Our tomorrows will be determined by the decisions that we make today.
Seldom do you get to make significant life choices in ideal circumstances. Usually life altering decisions happen in less than ideal circumstances. And in these moments, you need to have convictions in you that are so rooted and grounded that it is already predetermined that you will choose God’s path.
We have all talked with people who have made terrible decisions based on emotions or peer pressure in the heat of the moment. People are more inclined to make horrible decisions during these challenging times. That’s why hospitals will tell you to make the hard decisions ahead of time before your relative is at the point of death on a breathing machine. That way your decisions are settled before you get into an emotionally unstable state of mind. So how do you make the best choices in the worst times?
The answer is to be settled ahead of time in your mind about what is moral and what is immoral. When you don’t do this you are vulnerable to a downfall. The key is to be grounded in truth and in faith. Settled means to be firmly fixed. It means you have truth in you about what’s moral or immoral, before you face a temptation or get around people who are doing crazy things. Establish standards and don’t change them just because society or the world tells you that it’s “normal” to do something. Truth must be seated on the throne of your life.
