Armor check – Shield of Faith

In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.
-Ephesians 6:16 ESV

The next piece of armor is the shield of faith. Ephesians 6:16 says, “In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one”
(ESV).

The Roman soldier’s shield was about two feet wide and four feet long. He used it to ward off the blows of the enemy, and he also hid behind it when the enemy archers would release a volley of arrows. Roman soldiers could kneel down on the ground and erect a wall of shields around them to block out flaming barrages. If you saw the movie 300, you saw an accurate depiction of this.

Satan is always firing his hot arrows at us. He is always trying to get inside of us with guilt or accusations. If you have the shield of faith protecting you, Christ is more than able to give you the peace and protection you need.

When the flaming arrows of the enemy are heading for you, hunker down behind your faith. Claim God’s promises. Remind yourself of where God has brought you from. Proclaim His strength in your weakness. Faith in God will get you through it!

THINK ABOUT IT—
What trials have you overcome with God’s help? As a faith building exercise, remember times in your life when God answered prayer or provided for your family.

PRAYER FOR TODAY—
Heavenly Father,
I am grateful for a strong faith to stand on when the enemy attacks. Help me today to stand firm in my faith when the world tries to shoot arrows at my morals and beliefs. Amen.
