“And Then Some” Faith

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8 (NIV)

God is an “And Then Some” God. He doesn’t just meet your needs. He exceeds them. He doesn’t just forgive. He forgives abundantly. He doesn’t just give life. He gives life more abundantly. When we live in His image, we are called to reflect that same principle in our own lives: to give more than expected, to go beyond the ordinary, and to serve with a heart of generosity.

Imagine what would happen this week if you decided to go beyond your usual routines.

Instead of mindlessly flipping on the radio, what if you filled your mind with Scripture and worship? Instead of only attending church on Sunday, what if you made spiritual growth a daily priority? This is what it means to “water the camels”—to give yourself to God consistently, not for recognition, but because excellence and devotion are your nature.

The principle applies to relationships, too. Consider taking a moment this week to reach out to someone in need. One pastor had eight people on his heart—some facing illness, some struggling personally. Despite a busy schedule, he called them. Fifteen minutes of effort turned into encouragement, hope, and connection. What he gave freely was returned in blessing, both to him and to those he ministered to. That is the power of going “And Then Some.”

Worship is another area where this principle matters. True worship is “shipping worth” to God. It’s not limited to Sundays or to what’s convenient; it’s a lifestyle of gratitude and praise. When we truly honor God with our hearts, our words, and our actions, we reflect His “And Then Some” nature to the world.

Think of God’s creation. He made billions of galaxies, the stars, the earth, and humanity. And He didn’t stop there. He made us in His image and lavished us with love, grace, and mercy beyond measure. He promises to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or imagine. God’s blessings are overflowing, limitless, and always more than enough.

This week, choose to live an “And Then Some” life. Go beyond what’s expected in your faith, your work, and your relationships. Be generous with your time, your love, and your effort. Serve, worship, and give freely, trusting that God sees your heart and will bless you abundantly. When you live beyond the minimum, God’s power and presence are evident in ways that exceed even your highest dreams.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live beyond the ordinary. Teach me to give more than is expected, to serve with a heart like Yours, and to worship with all my being. Let my life reflect Your abundance, Your grace, and Your “And Then Some” love. Amen.
