An Urgency In This Hour

“And David said to Ahimelech, ‘Is there not here on hand spear or sword? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.’” 1 Samuel 21:8 NKJV

There are moments in life when you do not have the luxury of delay. David found himself in one of those moments. The enemy was pursuing him. Fear was close. Pressure was real. And in his desperation, he ran into the house of God. He did not come with a plan. He did not come prepared. He simply said, “I need a weapon because the king’s business required haste.”

That phrase matters. The King’s business required urgency. Not convenience. Not comfort. Not when it fits the schedule. The priest looked at David and said the only weapon available was Goliath's sword. The very sword David had laid down years earlier after a great victory. And David said, “There is none like it.” In the moment of urgency, God handed him something familiar that reminded him who he was and who God had already proven Himself to be.

You need to hear this. When you are about the King’s business, God will always provide what you need for the moment you are in. Sometimes it will not look new. Sometimes it will be something God used before. But it will be exactly what you need.

The problem is not that the church lacks resources. The problem is that we lack urgency. Jesus said it Himself when He was only twelve years old. “I must be about My Father’s business” Luke 2:49 NKJV. Even as a child, Jesus understood priority. The Father’s business came first. Somewhere along the way, many believers have made the King’s business optional. Something we get to when life slows down. Something we fit in after everything else is handled. But the truth is this. The King's business does not wait. Souls do not wait. Broken families do not wait. A hurting generation does not wait.

Hell is not casual about its assignment. Scripture says the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy John 10:10 NKJV. Isaiah tells us that hell has enlarged itself, Isaiah 5:14 KJV. Darkness is advancing with intention, and God is calling His people to wake up with urgency. You are not just living another ordinary day; you are living in a moment that matters for eternity. The King’s business has fallen on you. Your prayers matter. Your obedience matters. Your willingness to speak up, love boldly, give generously, and live surrendered matters.

Action is always preceded by urgency. When urgency grips your heart, excuses fall away. Distractions lose their power. And you begin to live with your eyes on eternal things.

This is the hour to unbusy yourself. To ask the question honestly. Am I about the Father’s business?

Prayer: Father, awaken my heart again to the urgency of Your Kingdom. Forgive me for delay, distraction, or complacency. Help me to see people the way You see them and moments the way You see them. I want my life to be about Your business, not my comfort. Use me to bring light into dark places and hope to hurting people. I surrender my time, my priorities, and my plans to You. In Jesus name, Amen.
