Act Like A Man: A Special Word To Fathers (Part 2)
“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
1 Corinthians 16:13 says, “Act like men.” But what does that really mean? First and foremost, it means taking leadership and responsibility for your family. Lead your family to church, guide them in prayer, and help them follow the Word of God. If your children stray, get on your knees, declare God’s promises over them, and fight for them in prayer. Show them your love unconditionally, no matter what.
Your family needs you to be a watchman. You need to be alert and aware of what’s happening at home.
What are your children watching? Listening to? Who are their friends? Who are they spending time with? How is their spirit? Their attitude? What’s going on in their hearts? Don’t let them just lock themselves away in their rooms. Acting like a man means getting involved and staying engaged.
Acting like a man also means not acting like an animal. The Bible warns that in the last days, men will behave like beasts, driven by lust and impurity. Titus 1:2 says that men who lie have become like evil beasts. Animals only seek to satisfy their own desires. Men, it’s time to stop acting on impulse, thinking only about what you want right now. We are called to honor our wives and remain faithful to them. God created us to live holy lives, loyal to our marriage and family. No matter what Hollywood, the world, or your friends say, act like a man of God.
Finally, acting like a man means leaving boyhood behind. Your wife is not your mother. 1 Corinthians 13:11 says, “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. But when I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” As a husband and father, you shouldn’t throw fits when things don’t go your way or treat your home like a locker room. You need to do your part. Help keep the house clean, take responsibility for your own health and well-being. It’s not your wife’s job to make sure you eat right, exercise, get to work on time, or look presentable.
If you are a man, whether young or old, pray this prayer today: “Lord, I surrender everything to You. You know my weaknesses, my struggles, and the areas where I need to step up and act like a man. God, help me be a better husband, a better father, a better Christian, and a better man. Thank You for cleansing me and touching me with Your Word. Give me the courage and boldness to stand firm in faith and never compromise my convictions. Let me act like a man, doing everything in love. Amen.”
