The Extra Mile
There’s no traffic jam on the extra mile. If your employer were to rate you on a scale from “not so good” to “and then some” where would you fall? Here’s a better question: If Jesus were with you for a full week of work…every minute…would your work week be any different? It’s no one but you and me right now, so complete transparency is a safe.
Let me ask a more important question: Do you love what you do? If you are like millions of Americans, you are unhappy or bored with your work. Career satisfaction is a huge factor when it comes to a person’s effort on the job. Even more important, people who enjoy what they do live longer.
Studies have been done that prove that a person who takes the risk to quit the job they hate and start doing what they love, even if it is a large financial set-back initially, will end up making more in the long run. A lot more. And the way we feel about our work shows more than you might think.
We won’t win the world with minimum effort. Extraordinary results require extraordinary effort. You have to believe in what you are doing, or the daily grind will become a daily albatross. “And then some” employees attract extraordinary reward, influence, and impact. When the top producer has something to say, people listen.
I have a few questions for you:
- Are you an “and then some” employee where you work?
- Are you happy doing what you do for a living?
- Are you open to being honest with yourself about who you are and what you were born to do?
- Are you willing to take a first step of faith and start aligning your life’s work with your true self?
These are not easy questions, but then, these are not ordinary times; the times we live in are extraordinary times.
God is watching you. Scripture says in Matthew 5:41, "… if a soldier compels you to carry his pack one mile, carry it two.” Do what is expected…and then some. Perhaps the greatest tool to reach the lost is an “and then some” spirit. Jesus is the model for “and then some.” This spirit is attractive and will draw people to the God of, “and then some.” But if your work-life does not line up with the person you know you were meant to be, it’s time to consider making a change. Do you have faith for that? Start that conversation with the Lord. And then, Let’s talk.
